چکیده
The 8.7 s X–ray pulsar 4U 0142+61 was monitored by BeppoSAX between January 1997 and February 1998. This source belongs to the rapidly growing class of " anomalous " X–ray pulsars (AXPs) which have pulse periods in the 6–12 s range and no plausible optical, infrared or radio counterparts. The BeppoSAX periods measurements show that 4U 0142+61 continues its spin–down at a nearly constant rate of ˙ P ∼ 2×10 −12 s s −1. The 0.5– 10 keV pulse shape is double peaked. The phase–averaged spectrum can be described by a steep absorbed power–law (Γ ∼ 4) plus a blackbody with kT ∼ 0.4 keV. 4U 0142+61 was also detected serendipitously in a March 1996 RXTE observation pointed towards the nearby 1455 s X–ray pulsar RX J0146.9+6121. The timing analysis results are reported for this observation and the spin history of 4U 0142+61 since 1979 is discussed.

متن کاملRXTE Observations of the Anomalous Pulsar 4 U 0142 + 61
We observed the anomalous X-ray pulsar 4U 0142+61 using the Proportional Counter Array (PCA) aboard the Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer (RXTE) in March 1996. The pulse frequency was measured as = 0.11510039(3) Hz with an upper limit of j _ j 4 10 13 Hz s 1 upon the short term change in frequency over the 4.6 day span of the observations. A compilation of all historical measurements showed an overal...
متن کاملVariations from the Anomalous X - Ray Pulsar 4 U 0142 + 61
We report on our Spitzer observations of the anomalous X-ray pulsar 4U 0142+61, made following a large X-ray burst that occurred on 2007 February 7. To search for mid-infrared flux variations, four imaging observations were carried out at 4.5 and 8.0 μmwith the Infrared Array Camera from February 14 to 21. No significant flux variations were detected, and the average fluxes were 32.1±2.0 μJy at...
متن کاملTitle On the infrared , optical , and high - energy emission from theanomalous X - ray pulsar 4 U 0142 + 61
We show that the observed pulsed optical emission of the anomalous X-ray pulsar 4U 0142+61 can be accounted for by both the magnetar outer gap models and the disk-star dynamo gap models; therefore, there is no evidence favoring only one of these models as its responsible mechanism. Nevertheless, the estimated highenergy gamma-ray spectra from these models have different power-law indices and ca...
متن کاملRXTE Monitoring of Anomalous X-ray Pulsar 4U 0142+61: Long-Term Variability
We report on 10 years of monitoring of the 8.7-s Anomalous X-ray Pulsar 4U 0142+61 using the Rossi X-Ray Timing Explorer (RXTE). This pulsar exhibited stable rotation from 2000 March until 2006 February: the RMS phase residual for a spin-down model which includes ν, ν̇, and ν̈ is 2.3%. We report a possible phase-coherent timing solution valid over a 10-yr span extending back to March 1996. A glit...
